Dr. Steve Slott, founder NC Missions of Mercy project
The President's Call to Service Award is given to individuals that have given at least 4000 hours of voluntary service throughout their life times. Dr. Slott has given many, many more than 4000 hours of voluntary service in less than seven years and no one could count how many hours he has actually given in his career as a dentist in North Carolina.
In 2009, NC MPACT created the Excellence in Providing Access to Dental Health Care Award to recognize and honor dental professionals in NC that have proven that they can make a difference in access to dental health care. This award is given to professionals that, through passion and determination with personal and professional sacrifice, take responsibility for the dental needs of their communities. The award will be given annually starting 2010. Dr. Slott is an appropriate first recipient. His work has made significant impact and effectively grown exponentially through those he has mentored with his actions.
Dr. Slott's Philosophy:
"It's the obligation that goes with licensure that I should do what I can do to alleviate pain and suffering, and provide dental care for all our citizens, not just those who can pay."

What people say about Dr. Slott:
"For months I tried to get help for my teeth. The pain was so bad I couldn't focus on work, the kids or anything. Sometimes I woke up at night in really bad pain. Dr. Slott took out the teeth and I haven't hurt since then. I will never forget what he has done for me." ~~LeAnne Ray, NCMOM patient
"We need more dentists with Steve's passion. He has almost single-handedly been responsible for arranging clinics and volunteers where more than $5 million in treatment has been donated over the last five years to those who are in need. He's one of a kind!" ~~Dr. Alec Parker, NC Dental Society
".....Lots of people who need dental care desperately are being helped thanks to Slott and his colleagues." ~~Madison Taylor, The Times News
"Thank you, Dr. Slott, for this good work. The hands that restore health and teeth restore humanity for so many who otherwise suffer from resultant poor health, social scorn, and the ravages of invisibility."~~Genevieve Burbridge, NCMOM patient and future volunteer
